Witch Balls

Witch balls have been around for centuries.

The witch ball originated among cultures where harmful magic, dark energy and those who practiced it were feared.

Witch Balls are one of the many items that were used to protect the household or workplace from dark magic and evil thoughts.

My Grandmother believed that one should always be hanging near the entrance of the house, others a window,  on top of a vase, in a stand or any area where energy was stagnant.

In America, witch balls became popular in the 1800’s. Varieties could be found in the home, office, barn and the garden.

Gazing Balls, the mirrored or mercury glass style, are also a form of witch ball.

The legend is that witch balls attract the evil spirits to the sphere by color and reflection, where the entities become trapped and tangled in the strands inside the sphere or on the reflective surface and cannot escape.

Each Witch Ball is handcrafted and unique…no two are exactly the same. They can have a slightly irregular surface, caused by the formation of the strands inside. Color patterns and saturation vary from piece to piece, as one would expect from a completely handmade glass art piece.
