A paddybird is an Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii.) This small heron is widespread from Iran east to India, Burma and Sri Lanka. They are very good at camouflage as they stalk prey in small ponds and lakes. Their white wings flashing as they take off make them easy to spot in flight.
