Incense may be burned in any non-flammable container, but most people prefer to place their incense in a specially made incense brazier or incense burner that stands on legs, a base or that has a wooden coaster so that the heat of the burning charcoal will not mar their altar or table surface. For home use, a standing incense brazier is generally preferred, and it should be large enough to hold incense. If you like, you can fill it halfway full of clean sand and burn stick or cone incense. It also acts as an extra protection from heating up and charring your table.
