Indonesian Pottery
Hand thrown, hand crafted & hand painted, this sculpture is a contemporary work of art by the Indonesian People. Known as Kuta Pottery these pots are first shaped by a craftsman, then engraved by a teen age girl with a hand made wooden mallet. Next it is put into a traditional Indonesian kiln for hours at 800 degrees Celsius. After cooling it is sandpapered and then painted. It is not glazed. From beginning to end no power tools are used. Even the potting wheel is turned by hand (or feet.) It can take days to create these pots. These decorative painted pots have a modest frost resistance, therefore, they are only suitable for use indoor, or for patio gardening. These pots are destined to become wonderful collector’s items. The handcrafted touch of artisan skill will create variations in color, size and design. No two pieces are alike.
