When the woman at the Visitor Center in Yucca Valley (on the way to Joshua Tree) told us about the Orchid Show and Gem & mineral show, I was like “Woo Hoo! As soon as I got back from a wonderful trip to Joshua Tree, to watch meteorites, I started planning for the next trip which was about a month away.
I didn’t know they grew orchids in the desert. For many of you who have had a chance to go to the Integretron, you have driven right by the greenhouses. On a windy day you can see the large wind turbine creating lots of juice.
I decided to take the class on Orchid Care. They allowed you to choose the orchid and taught you how to replant it and nurture it. At this point I wasn’t sure if I would be able to keep the orchid because I was headed to the Integretron and other locations after the show.
I chose to not worry about it. In the past I would have not taken the class, believing it would be stupid to pay for something I couldn’t have. I have learned it is not about the stuff. It is about the journey. I figured if they couldn’t keep my orchid at the front desk (which they were able to do.) I was going to gift it to someone at the show. The class was $15.00 and it was money well exchanged. I learned a bunch of stuff about caring for orchids-the most important was about drying off the little crook where the two leaves meet on the Paleanopsis, which was priceless information.
As I look at my orchid and his buddies, in my dining room window, they make me smile and remind me of a wonderful jouney to Gubler Orchids in Landers, California. https://www.gublers.com/
