His large protruding stomach and jolly smile have given him the common designation “Laughing Buddha.” The Laughing Buddha's image graces many temples, restaurants and homes He has become a deity of contentment and abundance. A Buddha carrying a bag of blessings on his right shoulder with a scroll of knowledge and teaching in his right hand and a wu li (health gourd) in his left hand becomes both teacher and student allowing him to reach spiritual enlightenment.
